"Enter in by the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the path that leads to descruction, and many enter in by it. But small is the gate and narrow the path that leads to life, and only a few find it."
~ Matthew 7:13-14

Enemy of the Best

"Yeah, I dig God. He's fuckin' sweet."

But apparently not fucking sweet enough for you
to commit the social crime
of actually trusting Him.

You'll never be that criminal because
you've seen how your friends deal out justice.
No omnipotent creator of life itself
could be worth their trial and punishment.

Why ruin what you have?

They know you're a good guy.

Be real, but not too real.
You'll make us all a little uncomfortable.

Be nice, but not too nice.
We'll laugh as we trample you.

Be smart, but not too smart.
We'll punish and outcast you to oblivion.

Bow to society. Do what's expected of you.
Be yourself and express your individuality
but shut up about it and conform to us.

Don't dream too big.
Don't do anything too meaningful or too serious.
Don't develop any real convictions.
Above all, don't be too good.

Be different - just like everyone else.

And you earn the right
to hang with the boys
as a genuinely approved "good guy".

For wide is the gate and broad is the path
that leads to destruction,
and many enter in by it.
